The Khajuraho, Orchha and Gwalior Imperial Heritage Spine

Jhansi · Orchha · Khajuraho · Gwalior·
TOUR RATING
New on Evynx

A dense Central India heritage run through Orchha, Khajuraho temples and Gwalior fort.

About this tour

A five-day run down Central India's densest heritage spine - Bundela-era Orchha on the Betwa, the UNESCO Chandela temples of Khajuraho, and the Scindia-era fort and palaces of Gwalior. The route uses Jhansi Junction as its gateway rather than Khajuraho's own unreliable flight schedule, moving by road through Orchha for a night, Khajuraho for two, and Gwalior for a final night before an open-jaw departure. Built for travellers who want three genuinely different eras of Central Indian architecture - Rajput-Mughal fusion, temple sculpture, and Maratha-royal grandeur - in one uninterrupted circuit.

Highlights

  • Orchha's Jahangir Mahal - a Bundela palace built to host a Mughal emperor for one planned night
  • Khajuraho's Western Group of Temples - UNESCO-listed 10th-century Chandela sandstone masterworks
  • Gwalior Fort - a hilltop stronghold historically nicknamed the Gibraltar of India
  • Jai Vilas Palace's Durbar Hall - twin 3.5-tonne chandeliers, among the largest in Asia
  • Orchha's riverside Chhatris - fourteen royal cenotaphs lining the Betwa at sunset
