Sacred Sikh Heritage Trail: Amritsar to Anandpur

Amritsar · Anandpur Sahib · Amritsar·
TOUR RATING
New on Evynx

A pilgrimage through Sikh sacred geography, from Palki Sahib to the Khalsa birthplace.

About this tour

Sikhism's most sacred geography is not one city but a triangle of devotion, running from the Golden Temple in Amritsar to the birthplace of the Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib, with the charged theatre of the Wagah border in between - and this four-day pilgrimage moves through it deliberately, giving each site time for depth rather than a checkbox. It begins at the nine-storey octagonal tower of Gurudwara Baba Atal Rai and a guided evening walk through the Golden Temple, building to the Palki Sahib at half past nine, when the Guru Granth Sahib is carried across the causeway to its night rest at the Akal Takht under floodlight and kirtan. The city day works the old walled katras and carved havelis before the Wagah retreat, and the trail then climbs to Anandpur Sahib. There the Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, where the Khalsa was founded in 1699, and the Safdie-designed Virasat-e-Khalsa museum close the circuit. A private, flexible-date pilgrimage through Sikh sacred country.

Highlights

  • Palki Sahib Ceremony Golden Temple - Guru Granth Sahib procession to Sri Akal Takht Sahib at 21:30
  • Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib - one of five supreme Sikh Takhts, where Khalsa Panth was founded in 1699
  • Virasat-e-Khalsa Anandpur Sahib - Moshe Safdie fortress museum, 500 years of Sikh history and culture
  • Wagah Border Ceremony - BSF and Pakistan Rangers synchronised flag-lowering at the international border
  • Gurudwara Baba Atal Rai - 9-storey octagonal tower with intricate Sikh historical frescoes, Amritsar
