Malnad Ghat Loop: Chikmagalur, Agumbe & Kudremukh

Mangalore · Chikkamagaluru · Agumbe · Kudremukh · Kollur · Mangalore·
TOUR RATING
New on Evynx

A five-town Malnad drive beyond Coorg - rainforest, coffee estates, and two temple towns.

About this tour

A private driving loop through Karnataka's Malnad belt - the Western Ghats rainforest country east of Mangalore that most travellers skip entirely on their way to the more famous Coorg. This route deliberately stays out of Coorg/Madikeri, which already has its own well-worn circuit, and instead threads through five places that rarely get a dedicated itinerary of their own. The drive opens in Chikmagalur's coffee country, climbing to Mullayanagiri - Karnataka's highest peak - before continuing into Agumbe, India's second-wettest inhabited place and the rainforest research hub known for its king cobra population and cascading waterfalls. From there the route reaches Kudremukh, where private vehicles stop at the base village and a guided jeep or trek continues into the core forest zone, before closing through Sringeri's centuries-old Sharada Peetham and Kollur's Mookambika Temple. Built for travellers who've already done Coorg, or want the Western Ghats without the Coorg crowd - five genuinely distinct Malnad towns in one loop, framed around the drive itself rather than a single hill-station stay.

Highlights

  • Mullayanagiri Peak - Karnataka's highest point at 1,930 metres, above Chikmagalur's coffee estates
  • Agumbe - India's second-wettest inhabited place, rainforest research hub and king cobra country
  • Kudremukh's base-village drive with a guided forest jeep into the core Western Ghats zone
  • Sringeri Sharada Peetham - one of Adi Shankaracharya's four cardinal monastic seats
  • A genuine Malnad loop that deliberately skips Coorg's already well-worn circuit
