About this tour

Majuli is the world's largest river island and one of India's most culturally dense places - 22 functioning Vaishnavite monasteries (satras), a living tradition of theatrical mask-making dating to the 15th century, two distinct indigenous communities, and Sattriya classical dance preserved by monks who have maintained it as an unbroken devotional form for five centuries. The island sits in the Brahmaputra River, accessible only by ferry from Nimati Ghat (Jorhat). Arriving on the wooden country boat - watching the river expand to 3 kilometres of moving water, the island's embankments rising from the flood plain - is the first experience that makes it clear Majuli operates on its own terms. Three days covering the full cultural circuit: Auniati Satra and its Ahom-era manuscripts and royal jewels, the Naam Prasang evening chants with monks. Samaguri Satra's mask-making workshop - the bamboo-clay-cow dung construction of the theatrical masks used in Vaishnavite Bhaona plays, watched from a master craftsman. A Mising tribal village with Chang Ghar stilt houses and women weaving Mekhela Chadors on pit looms. The bicycle embankment ride at sunset with migratory geese settling in the wetlands. And the private Sattriya dance performance at Uttar Kamalabari Satra - the 8th Indian classical dance form, performed here as it has been for 500 years. Available October to March only. Ferry crossings suspended in peak monsoon (July-September).

Evynx Tours are listed as either Group Tour (fixed departure) or Private Tour (custom/private arrangement). Refund tiers depend on the tour type:

Group Tours (Fixed-Departure)

  • More than 21 days before departure: 90% refund
  • 14–21 days before departure: 75% refund
  • 7–14 days before departure: 50% refund
  • 3–7 days before departure: 25% refund
  • Less than 72 hours / No-show: No refund

Private Tours

  • More than 30 days before departure: 90% refund
  • 21–30 days before departure: 75% refund
  • 14–21 days before departure: 50% refund
  • 7–14 days before departure: 25% refund
  • Less than 7 days / No-show: No refund

Note: "No-show" includes failure to report at the designated meeting/boarding time.

Rescheduling & Name Change

  • Rescheduling eligibility: If rescheduling is offered for your Tour, it will be shown at checkout or in your booking confirmation.
  • Reschedule policy: Reschedule requests are subject to availability on the requested date. Differential price will be charged extra.
  • Name change (Group Tours): Name changes may be allowed up to 48 hours before departure, subject to operator ID/permit rules.

Operator / Evynx-Initiated Cancellation

If a Tour is cancelled by the operator or Evynx:

  • You will receive a 100% refund, or
  • You may choose a free reschedule (if available).

Your choice will be provided in the booking support flow.

Weather, Safety, and Force Majeure

If a Tour is disrupted due to weather, road closures, government restrictions, safety advisories, natural events, or similar circumstances:

  • First preference is rescheduling (no extra charge where possible).
  • If rescheduling is not possible, we will refund depending on:
    • If the Tour has not started: 100% refund
    • If the Tour has already started: Pro-rata refund (unused days/activities) minus any non-recoverable third-party costs already incurred.

Non-Refundable Components

Permits, entry tickets, special passes, or third-party reservations made in the traveler's name may be non-refundable once issued or booked.

Refund Timelines

  • Evynx processes eligible refunds within 24–48 hours of approval.
  • Banks/UPI may take 3–10 business days to reflect the amount.
