You land at Leh at 11,500 ft and spend the entire day in mandatory bed rest - the medically correct response to high-altitude arrival that prevents acute mountain sickness from progressing.
A low-exertion driving day through Leh's most accessible sights - designed to build confidence at altitude before the high-pass drives begin on Day 3.
The circuit's highest single point - Khardung La at 17,582 ft - opens the door to the wide sun-drenched Nubra Valley, which ends the day with Bactrian camel dunes and a live folk music bonfire.
A full-day round-trip excursion to Turtuk - India's northernmost tourist-accessible village, a Balti-Muslim cultural enclave near the Pakistan border that remained a restricted zone until 2010.
The raw Shyok River off-road highway bypasses the standard Leh-return route and delivers you to Pangong Lake's multi-shaded aquamarine shore in a single cross-country day.
The circuit's most distinctive day - instead of driving back to Leh you head south along the remote Indo-China border plains to isolated Hanle, ending with India's finest accessible stargazing.
A morning drive across wild Changthang grasslands brings you to Tso Moriri - the most pristine and least-commercialised major lake in Ladakh, ringed by Changpa nomads and rare black-necked cranes.
The long return from Tso Moriri to Leh passes through the dramatic Indus River canyons and stops at Chumathang, where natural boiling sulphur springs emerge directly from the riverbed.
A relaxed final full day in Leh covers the royal palace, the stupa overlook, last souvenir shopping, and a Grand Farewell Gala Dinner with live acoustic music to mark the 10-day loop.
A short morning transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for your return flight - check in 2.5 hours early for this high-altitude airport with frequent weather delays.
