A quick glance to help you understand what all will you experience during your journey
“One cottage stay on the backwater for all four nights - Kodi Bengre at dawn, an open day broken only by an evening mangrove boat ride, and the Maravanthe coast stretch on the way out.”
“One cottage stay on the backwater for all four nights - Kodi Bengre at dawn, an open day broken only by an evening mangrove boat ride, and the Maravanthe coast stretch on the way out.”
Below, you'll find how this journey unfolds - day by day, guided by people who live it.
The drive runs southwest from Bangalore through Hassan and Shiradi Ghat before reaching the coastal highway near Mangalore and turning north for Kundapur - a long day on the road, four to six hours depending on your start time, with the afternoon left open once you arrive.
Your base for all three nights is a Premium cottage stay directly on the Kundapur-Maravanthe backwater - individual cottages facing the water, chosen for the setting rather than resort-style amenities. Same room the whole stay; nothing to pack or move.
Lunch en route - Self-planned. Dinner at the stay - Included; a simple coastal-Karnataka meal, no set-menu resort dining.
You leave Bangalore for the coast and settle into a cottage stay on the Kundapur-Maravanthe backwater. There's no sightseeing stop today - only the drive, check-in, and a slow evening by the water.

Kodi Bengre sits a short drive south along the coast road, reached before the narrow spit gets its usual day traffic. You can walk the sandbar with the Arabian Sea on one side and the river on the other, largely undisturbed at this hour, before driving back.
Same cottage, same stretch of backwater - no packing or moving today. Many guests spend the rest of the day on the water-facing veranda or a short walk along the stay's own shoreline.
Breakfast at the stay - Included. Lunch - Self-planned. Dinner at the stay - Included, home-style, no set resort menu.
An early start gets you to the Kodi Bengre spit while the river-meets-sea view is still quiet, well before the day's usual visitors. The rest of the day is unscheduled, back at the stay by mid-morning.

There's no drive to plan for most of the day. Kandlur's mangrove corridor on the Chakra River is a short evening drive from the stay, reached in time for the light to soften as herons, cormorants and, in winter, migratory waders settle in for the night.
Third and final night in the same cottage. The Chakra River mangrove boat ride is a slow, low-noise paddle rather than a motorised circuit - the point is the birdlife and the light, not covering distance.
Breakfast at the stay - Included. Lunch - Self-planned. Dinner at the stay - Included, home-style.
No stop is planned for most of the day - guests typically stay by the water or explore the stay's own grounds. The evening's one fixed point is a Kandlur mangrove boat ride, timed for when the birdlife comes in to roost.

Checkout is unhurried - there's no early-departure pressure built into this day. Maravanthe is a short drive north along the coast road, where NH66 runs for about four kilometres directly between the Arabian Sea and the Souparnika backwater, before the highway turns inland toward Bangalore.
No night booked tonight - you're back in Bangalore by late evening. Checkout from the cottage is late-morning, with nothing scheduled before it.
Breakfast at the stay - Included. Lunch - Self-planned en route. Dinner - Self-planned, likely after you're back in Bangalore.
A slow final morning at the stay before checkout, then a stop at Maravanthe's NH66 stretch for a last look at the sea and backwater running side by side, on the way out of the coast.
