Tar Village - Ladakh's Walk-In Homestay Hamlet

Private vehicle transfer from Leh airport to your hotel. No sightseeing is scheduled today - Leh sits at roughly 3,500 metres and the first 24 hours matter more for how the rest of the week feels than any single sight would. Keep the day deliberately empty.

First of two Leh nights at a Standard-tier hotel in town, chosen for a quiet room over a central location - what matters today is rest, not proximity to the market.

Breakfast en route - Self-planned. Dinner near the hotel - Self-planned; keep it light, and go easy on alcohol on this first night at altitude.

The drive from Leh to Nurla follows the Indus downstream through the Sham Valley, a lower, gentler stretch than the high-pass routes east of Leh. From Nurla, the trailhead begins on foot - roughly 3.5 km and an hour uphill through a narrow gorge, crossing the stream on a couple of wooden bridges. Your bags travel with you; there is no vehicle relay past this point.

First of three nights with a host family in Tar, one of twelve homes in the village across its two hamlets, Yokma and Gongma. You share their kitchen and their evening, not a separate guest wing - rooms are simple and the household's rhythm is what you're staying inside of.

Breakfast at the Leh hotel - Included. Lunch en route or at the trailhead - Self-planned. Dinner at the homestay - Included; a home-cooked Ladakhi meal from the family kitchen.

No driving today. The whole village is walkable - Yokma and Gongma are connected by a quiet lane through apricot orchards and traditional stone farmhouses, and the pace is set by whoever you're walking with, not a schedule. The village's small monastery sits along this route and is open to a quiet visit.

Second night at the same homestay - by now the household's evening pattern is familiar, and there's no reason to be anywhere at a fixed time.

Breakfast at the homestay - Included. Lunch in the village - Self-planned, though your hosts may offer something from their own kitchen. Dinner at the homestay - Included.

Still no driving. Today is deliberately open - most guests use it to go further along the orchard lanes toward the edges of the village, sit by the stream that runs below Yokma, or simply spend longer in conversation with their hosts than the first day allowed.

Third and final night at the homestay - if the household is brewing chaang or has butter tea going, this is the evening to stay up for it.

Breakfast at the homestay - Included. Lunch in the village - Self-planned. Dinner at the homestay - Included, the last home-cooked meal of the stay.

The walk out follows the same gorge path as the way in - downhill this time, roughly an hour to Nurla, where your vehicle is waiting. The drive back to Leh retraces the Sham Valley road. There's no sightseeing built into today; it's a transition day back to town.

Second and final Leh night at the same Standard-tier hotel from Day 1 - a proper bed and a hot shower after three nights in the village, and a buffer before an early departure tomorrow.

Breakfast at the homestay before departure - Included. Lunch in Nurla or en route - Self-planned. Dinner in Leh - Self-planned; the market has more choice than anywhere in the village.

Checkout at leisure, then a private transfer to Leh airport timed to your flight. No sightseeing is planned today - most guests use the morning for last-minute shopping in Leh market or simply resting after the week.

No stay tonight - after breakfast in Leh you transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for departure, closing out the six-day loop from Tar's homestay nights back to the city.
