About this journey

Six days built around three nights in Tar, a Sham Valley hamlet no vehicle can reach. After acclimatizing in Leh, you drive two hours to Nurla and walk the last stretch yourself - a 3.5 km gorge trail, wooden bridges, golden rock walls - to a village of twelve households across two clusters, Yokma and Gongma, where every home takes guests and none of them run it like a business. You eat what the kitchen is cooking, sleep to the sound of the stream, and spend your days on apricot-orchard lanes rather than a checklist of viewpoints. Tar was named India's Best Tourism Village 2024 specifically for this - a place built so that visitors adjust to the village, not the other way around. This is not a Ladakh highlights circuit. There is no lake, no mountain pass, no monastery complex to photograph. If you have already done Pangong and Nubra and want to know what a Ladakhi village actually feels like from the inside, or if you are visiting for the first time and would rather spend three unhurried days in one place than tick five in a week, this is the arc. It ends with a return to Leh for a proper night's rest before departure - the walk out is no easier than the walk in.

Arrival and altitude rest

Arrival in Leh and a full day of mandatory altitude rest before any onward travel - a gentle walk to the market or Shanti Stupa only if you're feeling well by evening.

The Path Ahead

The drive from Leh to Nurla follows the Indus downstream through the Sham Valley, a lower, gentler stretch than the high-pass routes east of Leh. From Nurla, the trailhead begins on foot - roughly 3.5 km and an hour uphill through a narrow gorge, crossing the stream on a couple of wooden bridges. Your bags travel with you; there is no vehicle relay past this point.

First of three nights with a host family in Tar, one of twelve homes in the village across its two hamlets, Yokma and Gongma. You share their kitchen and their evening, not a separate guest wing - rooms are simple and the household's rhythm is what you're staying inside of.

Nurla, and the walk no vehicle can make

A two-hour drive west to Nurla along the Sham Valley road, then the 3.5 km gorge walk into Tar itself - the only way in.

No driving today. The whole village is walkable - Yokma and Gongma are connected by a quiet lane through apricot orchards and traditional stone farmhouses, and the pace is set by whoever you're walking with, not a schedule. The village's small monastery sits along this route and is open to a quiet visit.

Yokma to Gongma, at village pace

A full day inside the village itself - the lane between Tar's two hamlets, the apricot orchards, and time with your host family with nothing scheduled beyond it.

Still no driving. Today is deliberately open - most guests use it to go further along the orchard lanes toward the edges of the village, sit by the stream that runs below Yokma, or simply spend longer in conversation with their hosts than the first day allowed.

Third and final night at the homestay - if the household is brewing chaang or has butter tea going, this is the evening to stay up for it.

The Path Ahead

The walk out follows the same gorge path as the way in - downhill this time, roughly an hour to Nurla, where your vehicle is waiting. The drive back to Leh retraces the Sham Valley road. There's no sightseeing built into today; it's a transition day back to town.

Second and final Leh night at the same Standard-tier hotel from Day 1 - a proper bed and a hot shower after three nights in the village, and a buffer before an early departure tomorrow.

Checkout at leisure, then a private transfer to Leh airport timed to your flight. No sightseeing is planned today - most guests use the morning for last-minute shopping in Leh market or simply resting after the week.

Cancellation & Refunds Policy

Effective date: 15 Oct 2026

This policy applies to all Journeys booked on Evynx, unless a specific journey page clearly states a different policy ("Special Policy"). By booking a Journey, you agree to the terms below. Full policy (V1): evynx.com/cancellation-refund.

Paying for your trip

Tours and Journeys: Full Payment or Part Payment (30% at booking, 70% due 21 days Private / 14 days Group before travel). Part Payment not available inside balance window. Guided Experiences: full price at booking only.

If you cancel

Cancellation charge on package price; cash refund from amount paid; never pay the difference if charge exceeds amount paid.

If you cancel within 24 hours of booking

Cash: everything except platform fee. Travel Credit: everything paid. Private/Group: travel at least 7 days after booking. Guided Experiences: start at least 48 hours after booking.

Private Journeys

Part Payment balance due 21 days before travel.

  • Within eligible 24-hour window: platform fee only
  • After 24 hours up to 21 days before travel: 10% of package price
  • After 21 up to 7 days before travel: 50% of package price; Travel Credit 55% of the package price, or your cash refund plus Rs. 5,000, whichever is lower
  • Under 7 days, at least 48 hours before: no cash; 10% of the package price, up to Rs. 10,000.
  • Under 48 hours or no-show: no refund or credit

Group Journeys

Part Payment balance due 14 days before travel.

  • Within eligible 24-hour window: platform fee only
  • After 24 hours up to 14 days before travel: 10% of package price
  • After 14 up to 7 days before travel: 50% of package price; Travel Credit 55% of the package price, or your cash refund plus Rs. 5,000, whichever is lower
  • Under 7 days, at least 48 hours before: no cash; 10% of the package price, up to Rs. 10,000.
  • Under 48 hours or no-show: no refund or credit

Travel Credit

Use on any eligible Evynx booking. Book within 3 months; travel within 12 months after that. One conversion per cancelled booking. Late-cancellation credit bands on evynx.com/cancellation-refund.

Changing your travel date

First date change free at least 7 days before travel (same operator and trip). Second change or change within 7 days: 10% of the package price plus unrecoverable costs where applicable. Cancellation bands do not restart on reschedule.

If you do not pay the balance

Private balance due 21 days before travel; Group 14 days. Unpaid after reminders: cancelled at 10% of the package price; no extra bill if charge exceeds amount paid.

Platform fee

Once per package; not refundable to cash except where operator cancels. Evynx absorbs payment-provider refund charges.

Costs that may not be refundable

Non-recoverable permits, tickets, passes and third-party reservations once committed in your name.

If some travellers withdraw

No fixed percentage; operator assessment within 3 working days; recovered amounts passed to you in full.

If you add travellers

Additional travellers at price when added; platform fee not charged again.

If your operator cancels

Full refund including platform fee, or reschedule at no additional cost.

If the trip cannot go ahead

Reschedule first where possible; otherwise refund rules in policy section 16.

Changing a traveller's name

Private/Group: up to 48 hours before departure. Guided Experiences: 24 hours before start.

How to cancel and when your refund arrives
