Guwahati Pilgrimage & Majuli Island

A journey into the spiritual and living cultural heart of Northeast India.

About this journey

Guwahati is usually treated as a rushed overnight - either into a wildlife safari through Manas and Kaziranga, or into the Meghalaya hills - with rarely more than an evening cruise, and Majuli's satra culture buried at the tail end of a wildlife-heavy schedule. This Journey pulls those two overlooked strands away from the wildlife parks into their own six-day arc. It stays in Guwahati itself to start: Kamakhya Temple's Shakti Peetha on Nilachal Hill, a Brahmaputra sunset cruise with live Bihu music, then a full second city day - Umananda Island's Shiva shrine, the Assam State Museum, and a walk through Fancy and Pan Bazaar's old-town lanes, the kind of city time most circuits skip. A long transfer east then reaches Majuli, the world's largest river island, by road and Brahmaputra ferry. The satra culture gets the room it never had: Auniati's manuscripts and evening Naam Prasang, the 400-year-old mask workshop at Samaguri Satra, Mising stilt-village weaving, and a private Sattriya dance at Uttar Kamalabari Satra, before a Majuli sunrise and the return to Guwahati - no Manas, no Kaziranga, just the river and its temples.
