Your guide drives you to the Meppadi Forest Office to secure the mandatory permit, then a licensed Forest Department guide takes over for the climb - a steep opening stretch through shola forest giving way to open grassland, with the Nalaknad hills visible across the valley. The trail ends at the Heart-Shaped Lake at roughly 1,900 metres, its symmetrical outline set into a ridge fold; the final stretch to the true summit beyond the lake is closed to visitors under a standing Forest Department restriction. Permit and guide are arranged in advance.

Essentials
- Sturdy trekking shoes with ankle support - the trail is rocky and wet in places
- Minimum recommended age 12; no recent knee, cardiac or respiratory conditions
- Carry minimum 2-3 litres of water per person - no water source on the trail
- Valid government photo ID for the Forest Office permit

- Trekking poles for the grassland descent
- Warm layer - the exposed ridge near the lake is cool and windy
- High-energy trail snacks
Rules & entry
- Forest Dept permit counter opens 7 AM - arrive by 6:45 AM to secure a slot
- Solo trekking is not permitted - the licensed Forest Dept guide leads throughout
- The summit beyond the Heart-Shaped Lake is closed to visitors - no exceptions
- No overnight camping, littering or open flames anywhere on the trail
