Your guide handles the upper cliff viewpoint and the 600-step base descent at Athirappilly - India's widest waterfall at 330 metres across and 24 metres high - then drives 5 km further into the Sholayar Reserve to Vazhachal, a quieter, canopy-enclosed twin on the same river and one of Kerala's reliable Great Hornbill corridors. An optional stop at Thumboormuzhy Butterfly Garden en route adds 80-plus species to the day.

- Valid government photo ID for Forest Department check-posts
- Light change of clothes if swimming at the base pool (seasonal)

- Swimwear - base pool swimming permitted Nov-Jan only, weather permitting
- Binoculars for the Vazhachal hornbill and trogon corridor
- Cash for Thumboormuzhy Butterfly Garden entry (INR 20, self-paid)
Rules & entry
- Athirappilly ticket counter closes 5 PM - arrive by 2:30 PM for both trails
- Vazhachal eco-zone: marked forest path only, no off-trail trekking
- Base pool swimming is Forest Dept-regulated - follow posted signs and your guide
