EXPERIENCE RATING
New on EvynxA shared day-hike pooling trekkers into one group, to the world's highest Shiva temple.
About this experience
A single-day guided trek from Chopta for travellers already based at the meadow - no camping required - run as a shared group trek pooling separately-booked trekkers into one guided batch, the model local operators commonly use for this trek. A shared vehicle drives the group to the trailhead at 2,900m, then a licensed Garhwali guide leads the climb together: 5km of stone-paved trail through rhododendron-oak forest into alpine bugyal, to Tungnath - the world's highest Shiva temple at 3,680m. A further 1.5km of rocky ridge reaches Chandrashila summit near 4,000m, where the Garhwal wall opens out: Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trishul and Kedar Dome. The descent retraces the trail back to Chopta by late afternoon.
Highlights
- Tungnath Temple - world's highest Shiva temple at 3,680m, third of the five Panch Kedar shrines
- Chandrashila Summit - near 4,000m ridge with Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi and Trishul in one sweep
- Alpine Bugyal Meadow - rolling high-altitude grassland above the treeline near Tungnath
- Rhododendron-Oak Forest - the trail's lower 2km through dense Himalayan forest cover
- Licensed Garhwali Guide - leads the pooled group's pacing, altitude monitoring and temple protocol throughout
